IDEAL, also known as Krug & Priester GmbH & Co. KG, are a globally known firm which specializes in the manufacture of office equipment. The firm was founded in Germany in 1951 by Wilhelm Krug and Ludwig Priester, and prospered throughout the 1950s by producing paper cutters and trimmers, spray guns and duplicators. As the number of office workers grew in the 1960s, IDEAL positioned itself as one of the world's leading manufacturers of paper shredding and cutting machinery, opening up operations in the United States in 1959. By the 1990s, IDEAL had struck partnerships with French and American companies, further expanding its international reach, all the while adding production facilities at its German base. Turnover also grew, and the firm became the world's leading producer of paper shredders in 1998. However, although IDEAL operates across the world, it remains firmly anchored in the community of Balingen, where it first started, and the company is a major local employer, with over 400 workers. The company has also invested heavily in making its production operations as environmentally sustainable as possible. It also offers a comprehensive customer support service, including a spare parts delivery service (although the firm claims that its machinery is guaranteed to last for a decade, making spare parts less relevant).
