Excavator is the machine that can excavate the soil of various types forcefully and then using hydraulic system a hydraulic force is generated and utilizing this force bucket is pull back towards the machine. Most excavators used in the industry today make use of hydraulics as hydraulics can supply great amount of power by utilizing only minimal resources. A regular excavator would comprise of hydraulic cylinders, a boom, an arm and a bucket. All these components work together to make the excavator functional without much of disruptions. Adjusting the levels of oil in the hydraulic cylinders could greatly affect the accuracy of the hydraulic excavator. Hydraulic excavators have largely replaced the cable excavators which are mammoth earth moving machines which function with the help of cables and ropes. Cable excavators were once used in the mining and construction industries for excavation purposes. The major reasons for replacement of cable excavators by hydraulic excavators can be cited as cheaper costs, faster mobility and easier operation.
Hydraulic Excavators : Components & Build
The different components which make up the hydraulic excavator and the operational features of the individual components are explained below:
Arm - The hydraulic excavator operates on different levels. The first is the arm of the vehicle. The arm is comprised of two hydraulic cylinders, a bucket and a boom, which is on the upper part of the arm. The arm of the hydraulic excavator is analogous to the human arm and moves in two parts: at the wrist and the elbow. Inside of the hydraulic cylinder is a rod, which constitute the inner part of the cylinder, and a piston, which is at the end of the cylinder and enabling the arm to move with the help of oil. If there were no oil in the cylinder, the piston would drop to the bottom, but because of the nature of oil, its volume always stays the same. Oil is pumped through the end of the piston and in turn pushes the rod through the cylinder, thus creating movement of one or both parts of the arm. By controlling the amount of oil is pumped through the valve, the accuracy of the arm can be easily manipulated. This movement is activated by the use of control valves that are positioned inside the cab where the driver seat is located.
Engine - Power in an automobile is normally received straight from the engine but it works differently in a hydraulic excavator. Because the machine uses a lot of force, it is able to move by changing the energy it receives from the engine into hydraulic power.
Swing - One of the functions of this machine is its ability to turn. The swing of the excavator enables it to achieve the turn. The swing circle comprises of several sub-components such as an outer race, an inner race, ball bearings and a pinion. As the outer race turns, the pinion runs alongside the unmoving inner race. The ball bearings work to ensure that this is done smoothly.
Cab - The third part of the hydraulic excavator is the upper structure where the driver’s seat is located and the controls are positioned. With the help of two levers on both side and two in the front, the driver can move both at the same time to control the direction of movement and height.
Feet – Feet represents the base of the excavator. There are two types of excavator bases based on which the excavators can be broadly classified.
Types of Hydraulic Excavators
The two major types of hydraulic excavators used for industrial purposes are: crawler excavators and wheel excavators.
- Crawler excavators - These are the main excavators widely available in the market. They are usually very big and very large and they always come with very high horsepower. Crawler excavator runs on two endless tracks (chain wheel system). These types of excavators are predominantly used in hilly areas where risks of sliding of machinery are on the verge. Crawler type excavator has low ground pressure because of spreading of load on large area. Therefore, it is also used where soil support is weak.
Wheel excavators - Wheel excavator runs on wheels and are used for excavation and loading of dump trucks and most of the time it is only used for plain ground operations. Because of wheel, it is not suitable for hilly areas due to low grip value to the ground. Majority of the excavators run on continuous tracks rather than on wheels, because it is easier to manoeuvre them on a track. Models with wheels lose the advantage of a cab that is located on a pivot because they cannot rotate as easily.
Finding a right Hydraulic Excavator ?
Finding a suitable and best excavator from used hydraulic excavators for sale is not an easy task as it needs experts opinion and specifications knowledge base to understand the working condition and price estimation to pay for it. So relax and browse through the selection of the best hydraulic excavators for sale from the below list and make the selection, bid and own it. Trade Machines makes this process easier with the unique platform that enables machinery seeker to compare used hydraulic excavators from various suppliers at different locations by price and choose the best one that suits the business.
