Natural gas is a versatile low carbon cleaner fuel up to 95% cleaner than propane emissions. Forklift trucks are an excellent example of niche vehicle success for natural gas. Natural gas powered forklifts offer convenience and safety unmatched by any other forklift fuels, including battery electric systems. Refuelling can be done very quickly in less than 5 minutes, without the inconvenience or dangers of swapping over heavy LPG bottles. Emissions from a natural gas forklift trucks are considerably lesser than petrol, diesel or LPG forklifts and they are also up to 50% quieter, ensuring safer working environments for the workers. CNG forklifts provide the same heavy duty power as LPG forklifts. Natural gas burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel, which means less wear and tear on engine parts. Natural gas forklifts do not require the battery maintenance of electric forklifts, which can lead to extensive downtime and increased space for charging and storage.
Tasmanian natural gas distributor, Tas Gas Networks joined hands with TOYOTA Material Handling's Tasmanian dealer FRM TOYOTA a few years back to offer compressed natural gas (CNG) for forklift trucks. Some of the reasons behind this collaboration were the significant cost savings that can be reaped from the usage of natural gas as a fuel for forklifts and the lower emissions of particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) than other fossil fuels. Initially, four CNG powered vehicles were introduced in Tasmania including a TOYOTA 8FG25 forklift. Also in February 2005, TOYOTA Material Handling, U.S.A. (TMHU) began offering compressed natural gas as a fuel system option for a number of its forklift models.
When safety is of utmost concern, factories decide to change their present fleet of forklift trucks powered by other fuels like diesel, petrol etc. into natural gas powered forklifts. Initially, rather than buying new natural gas forklift trucks, companies opt to buy used natural gas forklifts as there will not be a major deviation in quality of the used natural gas forklifts. Used natural gas forklifts for sale can be easily found on websites where online auctions take place, like TradeMachines.
