NILES Tools Works Company is part of the KAPP Group of companies that design and manufacture heavy turning, grinding, drilling and planing machines. Since its inception in 1898, the company has been growing significantly, diversifying its product portfolio. The company also manufactures machining centers for various industries, such as aerospace and automobile manufacturers and their suppliers. Today, NILES has a global presence, as its sales network extends to virtually all corners of the world. With its headquarters in Berlin, Germany, the company has undergone several reorganizations and mergers with a view to bolstering efficiency. NILES developed the 'discontinuous generating grinding' technology which it uses to make accurate manufacturing of machine gears and other products.

NILES company was founded in 1898 in Germany as 'Deutsche NILES Werke AG'. In 1926, the company developed the 'discontinuous generating grinding' technology to make precise gears for its machine tools. In 1994, the NILES brand started manufacturing gear profile grinders. NILES became part of the KAPP Group in 1997. The company, under the group, has maintained a reputation of producing high performance machines, making it one of the world's largest manufacturers of reliable machine tools.

In 1944 during the Second World War, the company's plant in Berlin was destroyed almost completely. It however recovered in 1945 after the devastating warfare, and reorganized its production. Over the time, the company expanded its operations to many countries, including Brazil, the United States, Japan, and China, and continues to expand into new markets.

NILES manufactures a wide range of heavy duty lathes, including bores, internal gears, profile grinding machines, generating grinding, bore grinding, dressable and non-dressable tools, external gears and profiles among others. The company also offers measurements and modernization services for its industrial clients. Besides, the firm affords its clients useful information regarding the best technologies to use with the specific machining centers and machine tools sold. NILES also advises clients on the best machine tools for their specific needs to ensure that they purchase reliable machinery.

Today, NILES, under KAPP Group, employs over 850 people who work in its plants. Over 600 of these work in Germany. The company now makes large gear grinding machines of up to 8,000 mm diameters. The company has been under KAPP since 1997.
