FANUC EDM and Robotics was founded in 1956, as a subdivision of Fujitsu that developed numerical controls. Two years later, the first commercial numerical control of the company was shipped to Makino Milling Machine Co., Ltd. In 1972 the company was outsourced from Fujitsu and renamed to Fujitsu Fanuc Ltd. It still remained part of the Furukawa Group. In 1974 the company developed the first industrial robot of Japan. In 1984 the first fully automatic injection molding machine for plastic, the “Fanuc Roboshot”, was developed and produced by FANUC Corporation Fanuc Japan has the headquarters of the company in the Japanese village of Oshino which is situated in the district of Minamitsuru. The subdivision Fanuc USA Corporation was founded in 1977 (the name was changed to Fanuc America Corporation in 2013), in 1978 the Fanuc Europe S.A. was founded, since 2012 its name is Fanuc Europe Corporation. In 1982 the name of the parent company was changed to FANUC which is an acronym for “Factory automation numerical control“. Between 2003 and 2007 ten more affiliated companies were founded, some of them are operated as joint ventures. FANUC runs over 200 branches in more than 40 countries in the world and has about 6,500 employees.
